Teaching in urban environments requires comprehensive assessment and specifically designed instruction to meet the needs of children in difficult situations.
Too often, teachers in urban environments are transient and only stay in a given location for a short amount of time. For the child with autism, especially, the frequent change in routine, adult care, and academic approach is problematic and a source of anxiety.
As we face the newest epidemic to grow out of modern living, additional effort and work will be needed to educate all children with autism disorders, in accordance with their unique needs.
