This video opened my eyes to so many more options that I was unaware even existed. Oliver Sacks ...Hi Rachel, thanks for your question. Oliver Sacks is an excellent writer and researcher who examines the experiences of people with complex neurological conditions. In particular he reveals how some people can interpret and perceive the world differently from the 'standard model.' In most cases these people have been diagnosed as having a neurological difficulty or have experienced trauma to specific regions of the brain.

From these cases, we can more closely examine the area that lies between the nature and the complexity of our 'standard model' and the apparent 'mis-perception.'

Unfortunately, we can draw few conclusions about neurological conditions and processes from the apparent similarity of 'symptoms' experienced, except that different conditions may overlap in a particular area of the brain or may affect or interfere with a particular neurological process.

We are conditioned to find patterns and similarities in all things and feel accomplished when we detect one. Oliver Sacks has drawn our attention to this similarity or pattern and would have us take a note of it for future reference.

We should certainly keep it in mind as we continue to seek out new and revealing insights into the brain's complexity.

Regards

KenKen Buddhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08779642868298335590noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6857704062638728806.post-63735095665932056452014-03-24T10:11:03.865+01:002014-03-24T10:11:03.865+01:00Hi Rachel, thanks for your question. Dyslexia can ...Hi Rachel, thanks for your question. Dyslexia can describe a range of neurological experiences. The 'classic' description is where letters and words appear to move about on the page but others experience it differently and this adds to the difficulty in finding a single way of addressing everyone's needs.

Recently some researchers have suggested that the term 'dyslexia' should be re-examined because other neurological conditions are being wrongly classified as dyslexia and people have been receiving inappropriate attention and unhelpful support.

It is important to get a full assessment from a professionally qualified practitioner, as early as possible.

If you find that the help and support received after this is not helping then you need to re-visit the assessment to check its validity and if you continue to make no progress, then it makes sense to seek another opinion.

Good luck!

KenKen Buddhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08779642868298335590noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6857704062638728806.post-61622257571284156482014-03-21T15:07:20.505+01:002014-03-21T15:07:20.505+01:00Is dyslexia a problem with reading where words jum...Is dyslexia a problem with reading where words jump around on page and letters within words transpose themselves.
